- Async stand-up
- A daily status ritual answered in writing inside a window rather than in a synchronous call. Useful when a team spans more than about four hours of time-zone spread.
- Blocker ageing
- Tracking how long an item has been blocked, so that a two-day blocker and a two-week blocker stop looking identical in a list.
- Scope drift
- Work added to a sprint after kickoff. Distinct from velocity drift, which is the same scope moving more slowly.
- Capacity heatmap
- A view of committed work per person per day, with time-off applied. Exists to find overload, not to rank people.
- Decision Record
- A short structured note capturing a decision, its owner, its date and the alternatives considered. Borrowed from the ADR practice and applied beyond architecture.
- Forecast accuracy
- How close the sprint completion probability was to the actual outcome, measured after the fact. A forecast nobody scores is a guess with a progress bar.
- North-star metric
- The single measure a team optimises. Ours is time saved per builder per week. Most companies have four, which means they have none.
- Sync by exception
- Meeting synchronously only when the conversation genuinely requires presence, rather than as a recurring calendar habit.
